The weather has now become warmer and your child will likely be outside more. With increased activity and warmer weather, the risk of dehydration increases. Please encourage your child to increase their drinking of non-caffeinated drinks. All students may carry a water bottle with them at school.
Allergy season is upon us and with it comes the onset of itchy, watery, red eyes, sneezing, runny nose, congestion, dry cough, and even possible sleep disturbances. What can you do to help your child who suffers from seasonal allergies or allergies to pollen?
- If your child has allergy medication, please make sure it is taken as prescribed or directed.
- If your child takes an antihistamine that may cause drowsiness, please have them take it prior to bed.
- When your child comes in from outdoors…
- Encourage them to wash their hands and face with soap and water.
- Encourage them to wipe off their hair to remove any allergens.
- Have them change clothes when they come inside.
- Encourage your child to shower or bathe before going to bed to ensure that the pollen has been removed and not introduced to their bedding.
- If your child needs any allergy medication at school (prescribed or over-the-counter), be sure to have their health care provider complete a medication order form and then provide that medication to the health room.
