FAQs about BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

What time should I arrive?

We suggest you arrive by 5:45 p.m., as the evening will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parking is always challenging; we suggest that you carpool if possible.

Who should attend?

We know you may be wondering whether or not to bring your child with you. Although he/she may want to attend, we respectfully request that if at all possible, you come to Back to School Night without your child.  Space is limited, and if this year is like other years, the hallways will be filled with adults moving in various directions to get to class on time.  Don’t worry about getting lost; staff and student volunteers will be available to help you arrive to your child’s classrooms, so you will not need to bring your student to help guide you.  You will also receive a map of the school to help you find your way to classes. Thank you in advance - we appreciate your support!

What should I bring?

Although we encourage you to bring a copy of your child’s schedule with you, there will be a copy waiting for you in your child’s first period class.   All you really need to know when you arrive is your child’s first period teacher and room number.  You may want to bring something so that you can take notes, if needed.

How do I access my child’s schedule?

If you want to bring a copy of your child’s schedule, you can access it by visiting https://hcpss.me/, click on SYNERGY, and then click “Class Schedule” from the menu.

What should I do when I arrive?

When you arrive, please proceed to the cafeteria for a general session, and from there you will head to your child’s period 1 class (you will not attend homeroom).  Once you arrive, you will receive your child’s schedule. If for some reason you are running late, schedules will be available at a help desk in the foyer starting at 6:40 p.m.

What is the schedule for the evening?

The evening will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. with a general session, and period 1 will begin at 6:30 p.m.   The evening will end at 7:40 p.m.  While in your child’s period 1 class, you will pick up your child’s schedule, a school map, and the bell schedule for the evening.

During the evening, you will attend each of your child’s classes.  Classes will be 7 minutes in length with a 3-minute transition time between classes. A more detailed schedule is below:

I need help with Canvas and the Family File.   Will there be support offered on Back-to-School-Night?

Yes! We will have workstations set-up right inside of the media center, starting at 6:00 p.m., for anyone who needs support with Canvas and/or the Family File.  We will be open throughout Back to School Night, so be sure to stop by!

PTSA and Spiritwear

During Back to School Night you will have an opportunity to join the PTSA!  Our PTSA is incredibly supportive of our school community, and through your membership they are able to support different programs including cultural arts, PBIS, student agenda books, and more!  Please consider joining during Back to School Night, if you have not already done so.

The PTSA and school will also have spiritwear available for purchase, including water bottles, t-shirts, and crab mallets.  You don’t want to miss this cool cobra swag (cash or check accepts)!

Help Desk and Student Helpers

There will be a help desk in the foyer when you arrive, and you can access them for logistical questions throughout the evening. If you arrive late and miss your child’s period 1 class, you can stop by after 6:40 p.m. to pick up a copy of your child’s schedule.  Further, student helpers will be stationed around the school to assist you in finding your child’s classes.

What else can I expect?

Attending Back to School Night is an exciting time for parents and staff!  Our students also look forward to having their parents visit the school to see their classrooms and meet their teachers.  We look forward to having you visit Glenwood, and we are excited that you will have the opportunity to visit your child’s classes and listen to a presentation from the professionals who teach them.  We respectfully request that you refrain from recording or photographing the presentations.

Our staff members will have a brief amount of time to share the information they feel is the most important for you to know.  Because time is limited, there is not time  for  individual  conversations or conferences.   If there is something that you would like to discuss with a teacher, we want to give you the time and attention you deserve which cannot be achieved on Back to School Night.  If this is the case, we respectfully request that you either contact the teacher directly or that you contact the student services office to arrange for a conference.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, September 6!
