GMS Spore Sampling Reports - September

Fri, 09/25/2015 - 10:23am

Dear Glenwood Middle School community:

I am pleased to let you know that the reports on the air quality measurements taken at the school on September 2, 9, and 16 continue to show favorable results.

Aria Environmental, Inc. recently completed both reports on the sampling for mold spore counts and other air quality indicators taken in multiple indoor and two outdoor locations on each date. These were the latest in a series of scheduled tests following the upgrade of the school HVAC system.

The results for all three assessments show that mold spore counts for the indoor measurements continue to be significantly lower than the spore counts found outdoors. Specifically, the indoor spore counts measured on September 2 ranged from 1,860 to 7,960 total spores per cubic meter of air, compared to counts measured in the two outdoor locations, which ranged from 33,294 to 37,306 total spores per cubic meter.

The indoor counts taken on September 9 ranged from 1,053 to 3,173 total spores per cubic meter of air, compared to the outdoor counts, which ranged from 21,890 to 31,876 total spores per cubic meter. The indoor counts taken September 16 ranged from 447 to 3,493 total spores per cubic meter, compared to the outdoor count range of 17,543 to 20,287 total spores per cubic meter.

The results of the other air quality assessments were also favorable. All of the relative humidity measurements have fallen within the comfort ranges established by ASHRAE. All temperature measurements have also been within the ASHRAE ranges, with the exception of one portable classroom, which on Sept. 16 was slightly above the comfort range. All other measurements remain within the acceptable ranges for good air quality in all areas.

I also want to share with you the mold spore test results on five bins, which were found containing standing water that had been left in a classroom over a weekend. Four of the five contained mold spores and other material consistent with dust, and have been cleaned with household detergent per Aria’s recommendation.

Sincerely,
Robert Motley
