Presentation: GMS New Student Orientation August 2024
------------------------------------------------------------------------
To help our new students get off to a great start, we will have a brief orientation for 6th grade and newly enrolled 7th and 8th grade students on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Please review the information below, organized by grade levels, so that you have a great visit on Thursday. Additional information is also included at the bottom.
Information for 6th Grader Students and Their Parents/Guardians
When you arrive, parents/guardians will turn right and head to the cafeteria, and 6th grade students will turn left and head to their homeroom teacher’s classroom. Click here to view homerooms, organized by your child’s last name (be sure to look under the “6th grade” portion of the sheet). Staff will be present to assist students in getting to the correct classroom.
During the time that students are in their homerooms, they will have a chance to “walk their schedules'' and meet their teachers. They will receive and practice opening their lockers, and will receive their chromebooks. They will also have a chance to engage with their teachers and ask questions.
While students are in their homeroom, parents/guardians will join us in the cafeteria for a family orientation to Glenwood. Students and parents will finish at approximately the same time. Due to space in the 6th grade hallway, we ask that parents remain in the cafeteria; your children will return to meet you.
Once orientation concludes, we hope you will head over to Western Regional Park for a “Meet and Greet” sponsored by our awesome PTSA! Meet us at the main playground, on the left as you enter Western Regional. Be sure to look for the gold and blue star-shaped balloons once you’re there.
Information for Newly Enrolled 7th and 8th Grader Students and Their Parents/Guardians
When you arrive, parents/guardians will turn right and head to the cafeteria. Newly enrolled 7th and 8th grade students will turn left and staff will assist them in heading to the media center.
During the time that students are in the media center, they will attend a welcome session with our two school counselors, Ms. Hoffman and Ms. Nelson. Students will receive their schedules, and chromebooks, and they will be given a tour of the school. Being that they are not new to middle school, students will have an opportunity to engage with our counselors as they seek to find similarities to their previous middle schools, while also learning new things about Glenwood.
