Schoolwide MCAP Testing - ELA and Math

Statewide MCAP testing - for all students in ELA and mathematics - starts next week! The required tests will take place on May 12, 13, 19 and 20, and will start promptly at 7:50 a.m. each day. It is essential that students arrive on time on testing days - we appreciate your help with this! We also encourage families to remind students to do their best, persevere through challenging questions, and believe in the hard work and growth they have shown all year long. A little encouragement and confidence from home can go a long way! Below are additional reminders to help support your children during MCAP:

  • Be sure students are present and arrive on time on testing days so they do not need to be pulled out of classes for make-up sessions.
  • Please avoid scheduling appointments or signing students out of school early during testing sessions. Once a student leaves, they are not able to restart that test session.
  • Remind your child to bring their charged Chromebook, in addition to their power cord, and wired headphones (if they have them).
  • Remind your child that electronic devices (cell phones, ipads, smart watches, etc.) are not permitted in the testing areas.  If they are brought to school they must be kept in lockers.
  • Students need plenty of sleep, and a healthy breakfast/lunch, in order to maintain the stamina needed to do their best.
  • Routines are important in calming any nerves when it comes to testing. Keeping to normal routines both at home and at school will help students to do their best!

If you have any questions about MCAP testing, please contact Ms. Cassetta at heather_cassetta@hcpss.org or call 410-313-5520.  As always, thank you for your support and flexibility!
