Melissa Shindel

Welcome to Glenwood Middle School! As the proud principal at Glenwood it is my honor to serve and work collaboratively with such an outstanding and supportive community of students, staff, parents and families. During my twenty-six years in education, I have worked as a middle school English teacher, university teaching and graduate assistant, project manager, instructional specialist, and middle school assistant principal, and have served as a middle school principal for fourteen years. I came to the Howard County Public School System in 2006 and to Glenwood Middle School in 2022. Born and raised in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, my husband and I moved to Howard County because of the stellar reputation of its schools. I am proud to serve my local community, have my three children attend schools in HCPSS, and be a part of the tradition of educational excellence here in Howard County. It is important to me that each child at Glenwood feels a sense of belonging and value, and knows that they are loved and cared for by a group of educators who want to provide them with the very best middle school experience possible. Further, I believe that the collaborative partnership between school administrators, teachers, support staff, students, parents and the community is critical to the academic and developmental success of every child, and I welcome each of you to Glenwood Middle School as an important partner in your child’s education.
